Doug Hamel is a 62yr old journeyman carpenter and scaffolder. His fascination with dreams and mythology/poetry/fairytales recently lead him to enrolling in a certificate course through the Institute for Soul-Centered Psychology and Coaching. He is currently in the practicum stage of his 2 year certificate program.
Doug has written and broadcasted for the CBC. He is a graduate of the 2010 Wired Writing program offered at the Banff School of Fine Arts. He has personally studied under Canadian award winning poets Patrick Lane, Don Domanski and Birk Sparxton, among others.
In 2008, Doug co-curated an award-winning exhibition themed on the element of fire at the White Museum of the Canadian Rockies.
Doug is currently tending to a small orchard and 20 raised beds on 11 acres of land on Cortes Island, BC and is in the process of relocating due to a stroke. The listing for his acreage on Cortes can be viewed here.
